About Laurie Spera
I'm Laurie Spera, a passionate artist and educator with a deep love for watercolors and the vibrant beauty of New Zealand. With a background in applied arts and design, I've spent years honing my craft and exploring the diverse ways in which art can express the world around us. Since taking over the Creativity Room in February 2023, I've dedicated myself to creating a space where others can discover the joy of making art.
My work is heavily inspired by the natural beauty of New Zealand, as well as its urban landscapes. I have a particular fondness for painting native birds in motion and capturing the stillness of city scenes, always with an emphasis on vibrant colors and thoughtful composition. Teaching is a natural extension of my artistic practice, and I find immense satisfaction in helping others unlock their creativity and grow as artists.
The Benefits of Art for Growing Children and Adults
Art is more than just a creative outlet; it’s a powerful tool for personal growth and development for both children and adults. For children, engaging in art fosters imagination, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. It provides a unique way for them to express their emotions and ideas, often in ways that words cannot capture. Art also helps to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to focus and follow through on tasks.
For adults, art offers a much-needed respite from the stresses of daily life. It encourages mindfulness, allowing you to be present in the moment as you engage in the creative process. Art can also reignite a sense of curiosity and playfulness that is often lost in adulthood, providing an opportunity for personal expression and self-discovery. Whether you're picking up a brush for the first time or returning to a long-lost hobby, creating art can be deeply fulfilling and transformative.
At the Creativity Room, we believe that everyone has the potential to create, and we are here to support you on your artistic journey—no matter your age or experience level.
